How to do it, where to find it.

01/13/10 Get your local weather on your desktop

Newk's Nook: It is said that the Wooly Caterpillar can determine the weather. If you want a higher tech way of checking the weather read the following article. Kim does it again.

The weather has a big effect on our lives. It dictates how we dress. It can cause accidents. And if it’s really nice, you may even play hooky from work or, if your retired, drive a few golf balls.

Knowing the forecast is important.

You can get the forecast on television. Of course, you have to know exactly when to turn the TV on. And you have to listen to the “entertaining” banter.

Instead, why not just glance at your computer? Click the icon for the Weather Channel Desktop—the one displaying the temperature. It will open your local forecast.

It will also notify you of severe weather alerts. So, you’ll never be caught off guard.

Unfortuately, this program comes with several browser toolbars. These things are annoying. You’ll have the opportunity to uncheck them during installation. Do so.

You can also try the Weather Channel iPhone app.
